The Arizal is universally recognized as one of the most influential Sages of Torah in the last thousand years, the foremost master of Kabbalah, whose teachings illuminated the secrets of Torah and forged new pathways in our understanding of the world and Divine service.

He explains that all of the 98 curses of exile mentioned in the Torah portion “Ki Tavo,” derive from sexual transgression, blemishes to the sefirah of “Yesod,” which stirs Divine wrath and brings the “vengeance of revenging the Brit” in its wake. He describes the “Yesod” in its metaphoric symbolism of the male organ, which is like a bow that shoots arrows, just like semen is shot forth like arrows. Therefore, when the nation sinned through sexual transgression and blemished their holy arrows (the holy seminal seed which is the foundation [Yesod] of the nation), the letters of the Hebrew word for arrow, ח"ץ  - suddenly transformed, by a reversal of the letters, into their punishment, צ"ח which has the numerical value of 98 – the 98 curses of exile mentioned in the Torah portion “Ki Tavo”.
